The Dark Abyss

The Dark Abyss

The nails on both her hands have long since broken off,

Her life’s blood dripping off her fingertips.

Her lungs struggle to return life as she gives a great cough,

As her wretched brain remembers that taste of his sin.

The lovely lady stares at them impassively.

The corporal pain that she feels so vividly now,

Is nothing like the way he ripped out her heart so cruelly.

Come now you evil demon take a bow.

Can you see her now?

The way her eyes have dulled.

The way she lies and says she feels nothing.

The way she will now play like you do.

The way she whispers I love you before she falls asleep.

The way she cries in a moment, then screams in anger.

The way she is broken.

The way her holy jeans and baggy sweaters are a refuge.

The way you left her in the Dark Abyss.

Her screams pierce the night like an old banshee.

Her voice is masked by periods of gagging on the blood.

You killed her soul, her everything the fee.

Tears continue to keep her eyes in an endless flood.

This bloody lump has curled up on the cold floor,

Is the bright hopelessly happy cheerleader you once knew.

Does it feel great to know that you killed an innocent?

Tell me you recognize that girl she has become inside and out.

Can you see her now?

The way her eyes have dulled.

The way she lies and says she feels nothing.

The way she will now play like you do

The way she whispers I love you before she falls asleep.

The way she cries in a moment, then screams in anger.

The way she is broken.

The way her holy jeans and baggy sweaters are a refuge.

The way you left her in the Dark Abyss.

I’ve tried to make sense of all this.

Tried to see the beauty of it.

I’ve learned so much from the beast.

But it seems with every lesson,

That I will take many steps back.

I know that I’m pausing for you,

Always in vain, never again.

I’ll say goodbye yet once more, Love.
